EBSCOhost API - Info Method FAQs

What is the EBSCOhost API Info Method and want kind of data does it provide?

The Info Method allows the customer to receive a list of databases available to the given profile as well as the attributes of those databases, allowed indexes, and any attached authorities and their supported format types.

How do I know which EBSCOhost databases are associated with my organization's account?

This can be easily found using the Info method of the EBSCOhost API. You may test the Info method and see what databases are available to your profile here.

How do I utilize search tags in the EBSCOhost API?

There are a few ways to locate available search tags for a specific database.

  1. Using the SOAP protocol, the response to your Info Method request will return list of databases available to the specified profile. For each of these databases, a list of available search tags and their descriptions will display in the <dbTag> section of the response to your Info Method request.

  2. Using the Info method of the REST protocol, the response will return list of databases available to the specified profile. For each of these databases, a list of available search tags and their descriptions will display in the <dbTag> section of the response to your request.

    The example below is an excerpt which shows the response to a SOAP Info Method or the REST Info method, including available sort options and search tags.

    Example:

    ...<db shortName="rzh" longName="CINAHL Plus with Full Text">

    −<sortOptions>

                <sort name="Date" id="date"/>

                <sort name="Source" id="source"/>

                <sort name="Author" id="author"/>

                <sort name="Relevance" id="relevance"/>

    </sortOptions>

    −<dbTags>

                <dbTag name="TX" description="All Text"/>

                <dbTag name="AB" description="Abstract"/>

                <dbTag name="AF" description="Author Affiliation"/>...

  3. A more complete list of search tags is available in the Database Help page in the EBSCOhost interface. While viewing the Choose Databases Screen in the EBSCOhost interface, you may click the More Information link for the specific database and scroll to the Searchable Fields section for a list of available search tags.

The Database Help page is also available when searching the database in the EBSCOhost interface. On the search page, a Database Help link displays as a blue question mark icon, below the Find field and to the right of the database name. Click the Help icon and scroll down to the Searchable Fields section for a list of available search tags.
