Poetry & Short Story Reference Center - Demonstration Searches

The following are demonstration searches for the Poetry & Short Story Reference Center (PSSRC) database:

Poem

Search for: Ozymandias

  1. From the PSSRC homepage, select the Poem radio button.
  2. Type the poem title into the Find field and click Search.

Short Story

Search for: The Tell-Tale Heart

  1. From the PSSRC homepage, select the Short Story radio button.
  2. Type the short story title into the Find field and click Search.

Keyword

Search for: French poetry

  1. From the PSSRC homepage, select the Keyword radio button (note: this is the default selection).
  2. Type your desired keywords into the Find field and click Search.

Name/Author

Search for: Emily Dickinson

  1. From the PSSRC homepage, select the Author radio button.
  2. Type the author/poet name into the Find field and click Search.

Audio

Search for: Rita Dove

  1. From the PSSRC homepage, select Audios from the Browse box.  (You can also click the More tab on the toolbar and select Audio.)
  2. On the Audio Collection search screen, type criteria into the Find field and click Search.

Video

Search for: Interviews

  1. From the PSSRC homepage, click the More Videos link below Featured Video to view the entire collection in a result list format.
  2. Enter criteria in the Find field to filter the result list and click Search.
  3. Alternatively, from the PSSRC homepage, click the More tab on the toolbar and select Video to access the Video Collection search screen.
  4. Enter criteria in the Find field and click Search.

Themes

Search for: Celebration

  1. From the PSSRC homepage, select Themes from the Browse box. (You can also select Most Studied Poems from the Browse box and navigate to the Themes tab.)
  2. Using the A to Z bar, and/or Previous and Next buttons, browse through the list of poetic themes and select desired term.
  3. A list of poem titles indexed with the specified theme will appear.  Select any title to view the citation or full text of the poem.

Forms

Search for: Dirge

  1. From the PSSRC homepage, select Poetic Forms & Techniques from the Browse box.  (You can also select Most Studied Poems from the Browse box and navigate to the Poetic Forms tab.)
  2. Using the A to Z bar, and/or Previous and Next buttons, browse through the list of poetic forms and select desired term.
  3. A list of poem titles indexed with the specified poetic form will appear.  Select any title to view the citation or full text of the poem.

Techniques

Search for: Couplet

  1. From the PSSRC homepage, select Poetic Forms & Techniques from the browse box, then select the Poetic Themes tab.  (You can also select Most Studied Poems from the Browse box and navigate to the Poetic Techniques tab.)
  2. Using the A to Z bar, and/or Previous and Next buttons, browse through the list of poetic techniques and select desired term.
  3. A list of poem titles indexed with the specified poetic technique will appear, select any title to view the citation or full text of the poem.

Keywords

Search for: Health

  1. From the PSSRC homepage, select Most Studied Poems from the Browse box and navigate to the Keywords tab.
  2. Using the A to Z bar, and/or Previous and Next buttons, browse through the list of keywords and select desired term.
  3. A list of poem titles indexed with the specified keyword will appear.  Select any title to view the citation or full text of the poem.

Schools/Movements

Search for: Samizdat Movement

  1. From the PSSRC homepage, select Periods, Schools & Movements from the Browse box.  (You can also select Most Studied Poets from the Browse box and navigate to the Periods, Schools & Movements tab.)
  2. Using the Find field and/or Previous and Next buttons, browse through the list of periods, schools, and movements and select desired term.
  3. A list of poet names indexed with the specified term will appear, select any name to view the citation or full text of the author biography.
