Literary Reference Center - Browsing the Encyclopedia

Literary Reference Center allows the user to search Merriam-Webster's Encyclopedia of Literature.

To search the Encyclopedia:

  1. Hover your pointer over the More link in the top toolbar and select Encyclopedia from the drop-down menu.

    The encyclopedia home page is displayed.

  2. Enter a search term in the Browse for field and click the Browse button.

  3. Click on a term in the result list to view a detailed record.

  4. Select the HTML Full Text link for the complete reference article. From here, you can listen to the text, add the record to your My Literary Reference Center Folder, print, email, or save it to your computer.

You can also select one or more results from the encyclopedia and search Literary Reference Center for articles related to those terms.

To search for terms in the encyclopedia result list:

  1. Check the box for the term or terms you would like to search.

  2. Click the Search button.

  3. You are brought to a Search Screen. From here, you can type additional search terms into the find field(s).

  4. Click Search to get a list of results that combine your encyclopedia term with your added search terms.

Note: When you select multiple encyclopedia terms, they are joined in your search with "OR" to expand your results.
