How do I activate EBSCO SmartLinks in EBSCOadmin?

EBSCO SmartLinks provides linking among databases in EBSCOhost by seamlessly allowing a user to follow an article citation in one database where the full text is not available, to the full text of the article in another database where it is available.

EBSCO SmartLinks can be activated in EBSCOadmin for all customers who wish to link to their EBSCO e-journals or EBSCOhost databases.

To activate EBSCO SmartLinks in EBSCOadmin:

  1. Log in to EBSCOadmin at http://eadmin.ebscohost.com/.
  2. Choose the Customize Services Tab.
  3. Click on the Linking Sub-Tab.
  4. Select On in the SmartLinks field.
  5. If you are an EBSCOhost EJS customer, select On in the Electronic Journal Service (EJS) Linking field. Then, enter your EJS Customer Code in the EJS Customer ID field. Enter your EJS username in the EJS User ID field, and enter your EJS password in the EJS password field.
  6. Click Submit. Your changes are saved.

You can also ensure that your full-text e-journals are searched when the full text limiter is selected by verifying the following settings in EBSCOadmin.

  1. Click the Searching Sub-Tab.
  2. Choose On for the Include Linked Full Text (FT) Journals when using FT option.
  3. Click Submit. Your changes are saved.

Notes:

  • Smartlinks are available for HTML full text, PDF full text, and Flipster Digital Magazines. These links take the user directly to the article in their chosen format.

  • Activating Smartlinks on an EBSCOhost or EBSCO Discovery Service profile affects every database on that profile.  It is not possible to enable Smartlinks for only one database on a profile, such as Flipster.
