Should my institution choose IP authentication if we are using a proxy server?

When sites use a proxy server to access EBSCOhost, many schools or libraries are accessing through the same proxy and are therefore sharing an IP address. Since the proxy server's IP can only be registered in EBSCOhost under one site, all sites are accessing through the site where the proxy IP is assigned. Users coming through the Select Service screen will see the site name where the proxy IP is registered.

If you would like statistics for individual sites accessing through the same proxy, or would like to customize profile information for your site, then we recommend an authentication method other than IP authentication.

EBSCOhost offers a variety of authentication methods, which are explained in our Authentication FAQ.
