How do I set up User ID/Password Authentication?

User ID and password authentication can be useful to authenticate users who access EBSCOhost remotely. Provide users with the appropriate EBSCOhost user ID and password, and they are provided instant access to the databases you selected. Without the correct password, access is not permitted.

To set up User ID/Password Authentication:

  1. Click the Authentication Tab. From the drop-down lists on the toolbar, select the site you want to work with.

  2. Click the User ID/Password Sub-Tab then click the Add New User Link. The User ID/Password Authentication Screen appears.

  3. If you are administering a library consortium, from the Site ID drop-down list, select the site.

  4. From the Group ID drop-down list, select the group.

  5. Enter the new user ID and password.

  6. Click Submit. The list of user IDs/passwords appears with your new user ID and password displayed.

You can change the password for any of the user IDs in any user group by clicking on the linked password in the User ID/ Password list. The base EBSCOhost URL for this authentication scheme is

You can also add a profile ID at the end of the URL. (For example, where profileid identifies one of your profiles.)
