How do I set up User ID/Password Authentication?

User ID and password authentication can be useful to authenticate users who access EBSCOhost remotely. Provide users with the appropriate EBSCOhost user ID and password, and they are provided instant access to the databases you selected. Without the correct password, access is not permitted.

Creating a User ID and Password

To set up User ID/Password Authentication:

  1. Click the Authentication Tab. From the drop-down lists on the toolbar, select the site you want to work with.

  2. Click the User ID/Password Sub-Tab then click the Add New User Link. The User ID/Password Authentication Screen appears.

  3. If you are administering a library consortium, from the Site ID drop-down list, select the site.

  4. From the Group ID drop-down list, select the group.

  5. Enter the new user ID and create a strong password. Your strong password should follow these guidelines:

    • Include at least one number
    • Include at least one special character (!, @, #, etc. A space is not a valid special character.)
    • Password must be at least 6 characters
    • Password cannot include your user ID
    • Password cannot include the following words or parts of words: ebsco, ehost, password, pa$$word, dynamed, admin, p@ss, p@$$, pa$$

Note: Beginning May 5th, 2018, a password strength indicator will reflect how strong your password is using both color and strength value (red=weak vs. green=strong).

See: What are strong passwords in EBSCO products and interfaces? for information on strong password guidelines.

  6. Click Submit. The list of user IDs/passwords appears with your new user ID and password displayed.

For example: http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?authtype=uid&profile=profileid where profileid identifies one of your profiles.
