Why do some journal issues on the MEDLINE products display just a date on the Issue Tree of the Publication Details page?

Some journal content appears in the format CCYYMMDD on the Issue Tree because the content has yet to be published in an actual volume or issue of the journal. Most often publishers refer to this as "ahead of print" content or "online first" content.

Based on customer feedback, we are now including this content, which is important to medical researchers and others in timely domains, on all versions of MEDLINE. Because the publisher has not yet included the content in an actual volume and issue they can only appear on the issue tree with a date, will not contain full text and are not linkable. This is expected behavior.
